Introducing Mine Bats - Beech All Wood Bats

What Is BBCOR?

BBCOR stands for Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution.  It is a performance standard that was created to help define what wood and non-wood bats should fulfill.

BBCOR OFFICIAL RULE

Rule 1-3-2: “Effective January 1, 2012 the bat which may be a wood or non-wood product shall be a smooth implement, from the top of the cap to the top of the knob. All non-wood bats shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, and such bats shall be labeled with a silk screen or other permanent certification mark.”

HISTORY

Throughout the years, companies have perfected the performance of aluminum bats by engineering a thinner wall around the barrel. The goal was to increase what is called, the “trampoline effect”, so players could hit the ball with greater power and much farther than all-wood, one piece bats. At the same time however, the injury rate was also increasing. To eliminate this serious problem, the BBCOR test was adopted by leagues as a new standard. To obtain this certification, any aluminum or composite bats now have to perform similar to a one piece all-wood bat in a lab test.

SO THEN, WHY COMPOSITE?

There is no longer a substantial difference in performance, however, composite bats are still designed to last longer. MINE’s Fusion bat is engineered to be much stronger, yet give the same performance and feel as an all-wood bat.

ARE MINE ALL-WOOD BATS AND PRO BATS LEGAL WITHOUT THE BBCOR STAMP?

YES! Since they are one piece, all-wood bats, they do not need the certification to prove that they hit like all-wood bats and are legal to use in high school and college leagues without the BBCOR stamp. Sometimes, because of Mine's unique “soft-touch” finish, some officials may mistakenly identify the one piece all-wood bats and all-wood pro bats as composite bats. Simply clarify to the official that it is a one piece all-wood bat.

WHY BEECH?

Denser and more elastic than other species commonly used to make bats, European Beech Wood is the perfect choice for engineering a premium wood bat. You will feel the beech wood difference when you make your first contact. The unique soft touch finish on all MINE bats lets you know that you are holding something special.
